Render Ranch Help System

Q. There's no return to Vet button, is there no need for multiple visits to max out some animals health or is it a bug?
Or will it only show up if needed?

A. There is no longer a need for return visits.
Before the changes 90% of the time the vet would max out the condition the first time. We decided it would make things easier (and faster) if return visits were not needed.

Q. Will the races kill our animals?

A. Longer races can kill your animals. The lower the condition the more likely it is to happen. They use up Stamina first then if that runs out they use up Condition, if that runs out they will die. Start out animals on shorter tracks, and if your animals need the Vet to restore alot of condition after races they might be killed on longer tracks, Be Warned! Also do not neglect to Vet your animals between races, multiple races and not vetting between them can also kill animals!

Q. Could you explain how the new Show Personality works?

A. It affects the Judging of Shows, and it can change the animal's show score up to +/- 10%.
It is intended to mimic the real life fact that some animals have a better show personality than others, in real life some animals may have fantastic conformation(show quality and condition) but they don't have the personality to be shown.
And as in R/L the Show Personality can be increased by showing your animals. When an animal participates in a show it learns what to do and can do it better in future shows, just as in Real Life!
Also the Show Personality they are born with is random, unlike all the other stats, so whether you get a good personality or bad is pure luck.

Q. Do you have to buy food for your pets?

A. No, and you don't have to clean up after them either, I always assumed you have ranch hands to do this work on your ranch.

Q. Do you have to make regular Vet check ups?

A. Yes, but it's usually only after birthing it needs done. If you are going to DNA your animals (strongly recommended) you will want to Vet First to be sure their Condition (part of the DNA String EX. 708635.COW.BR.br.F.200.191.2007-11-08.2007-08-13 the underlined number is the Condition) is as High as it can be, or the DNA won't be right after vetting. The Vet is how you get an animal to it's top condition. And if they are at their top condition they won't show up at the vet so you can't vet well animals!

Q. Can you see pictures of your pets?

A. We are working on that. Several breeds are done at the present time, we are working on having pictures draw for all breeds.
Currently we are having some problems with the pics that we are trying to work out before adding more. We will get it straightened out.

Q. Are some animals rarer then others?

A. Yes, but thanks to the "Token Packs" any specie/color can be brought back into the game at any time.

Q. Can you train for the shows?

A. Not exactly, entering and placing in the shows does raise the Show Quality some, and the animal's Show Personality is improved by showing as well. You can improve your animal's Condition by placing in the Races. But mostly you need to improve your animal's Stats, their Condition and Show Quality, as the animals are judged on those qualities. Also different judges prefer different qualities or combination's of qualities, it's up to you to determine which judges like which stats!
There are now 2 stats that can be improved by showing your animals, placing in shows raises an animal's Show Quality by 2 points per placement so after placing in a few shows it's a good idea to re-do the DNA to reflect the current level your animal is at. And the Show Personality is raised by simply entering the animal in shows. Show Personality at birth is random, unlike the Show Quality.
There is also be a Stamina Quality to deal with for racing, and this is genetic.

Q. Are their any special colors when two combine like Paint Horses, Calico Cats and I guess Magu Chickens?

A. There are Paint Horses, Leopard Appaloosa Horses, Buckskin Horses, Brown Swiss Cattle, Ponies (a Horse Mutation), MaGu Chickens, Calico Cats, Pumpkin Cats, Tabby Cats, Vampire Mice & Tie-Dyed Goats. Some are not true "colors" but are changed Types, but all are due to certain colors and some also need certain patterns coming together to make them change.

Q. What Sites are we allowed to link to?

A.Currently any Render Ranch page may be linked to in your posts or ranch notes, as well as Render Ranch Fan Sites, anything else needs Staff approval before posting.

The current approved sites are:

Any Render Ranch Page or sites dedicated to Render Ranch

http://renderranchroleplay.webs.com/ - A site for role playing off of Render Ranch - Seems to be a dead end though, don't know if it will get active again or not.

http://hatfield604.blogspot.com/ - Heavily Christian themed Blog of Murtagh_Mackenzie, if you don't approve of Christianity don't visit.

http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html - How to Report Bugs Effectively by Simon Tatham

http://www.w3schools.com/css/ - CSS tutorial site.

http://games.groups.yahoo.com/group/Renderranchers101 - RenderRanchers 101 on Yahoo, a site for chatting and venting about Render Ranch. Moderated by Zermoid and sometimes visited by Fred.

http://renderranch.blogspot.com - Fred's Blogspot Site, worth keeping a link to, if RR goes down unexpectedly Fred usually posts info here.

http://www.nanowrimo.org - A site to promote creative writing.

Any other site that are fan sites, help sites, or tutorial sites for RenderRanch.com are allowed.

Q. What is "Dynamic Pricing"?

A. Well with the Market Pricing the value of an animal can rise and fall while it's in the Fair, the Dynamic Pricing is supposed to automatically adjust the selling price up or down with the rise and fall of Values, so if you put in an animal priced at it's Market Value it should stay there whether the Value rises or falls. This should keep your asking price from being excessively high if values drop, or if values rise keep you from selling for a ridiculously low price without having to pull and reprice all of your animals.
Likewise if you price your animals at half or double their Market Value your price should stay half or double no matter what the values do.

Q. I have an old aged female that I just bred, and I was wondering...will she give birth before she dies, or will she just die without giving birth??? that question stumped me...

A. If she lives long enough to give birth all is OK, but if she dies before birthing the baby/babies die with her, I bred 4 "old" animals to test this out, 3 gave birth with no problems, the 4th died before birthing and even though I left her sit for 3 days after dying no birthing link showed up. Odd thing was according to her pasture view she was still pregnant but on her page under Offspring the "pregnant" info was gone.
With the new "Water of Life" token item a old female can be bred and if she dies before birthing brought back to life with the item as long as you did not bury her. Once Buried they cannot be brought back to life. Also using the Water of Life more than once may not work as there is a disease associated with multiple uses to the water, it's called Aquatitis and it is quickly fatal.

Q. I was wondering if regular people could be moderators, or do you have to do something special?

A. RR is taking Applications for Mods at this time, just Rmail a Mod or Staff member and ask that you be added to the prospective Mods List. We base the selection on how you have posted in the forums, if you understand the game well, if you're helpful to newer people, and how long you have been playing the game, etc. and so forth. If you have been caught cheating, violating TOS rules or otherwise do not have a good reputation on Render Ranch you do not have a good chance of becoming a Mod.
The only thing that will increase the chances of your being picked is playing the game fairly and honestly and having a good reputation as a mature and intelligent person.

Q. How do I get a Brand?

A. You can apply for your brand and clicking on the link "Apply For Brand", it is under your ranch info in the left column, just above "Events". There is a charge of 20,000 RCs to buy and register the brand and also an additional charge of 125 RCs each time you use the brand on an animal.
Do not rush to get a brand! They are expensive and are not needed to play Render Ranch, get your ranch established and making a profit before spending money on a brand.
Branding is part of the Name Change page. There's a check box to add your brand to the animal.
"Add Brand: {Box is here} (LZ) This will add 125 Ranch Cash to the cost of this name change."
This line is right below the DNA String.
Also, something new, you can no longer Brand an animal that you did not birth on your ranch. We used to be able to put our brand on any animals that we bought even though we did not birth them. If they had a Brand on already then we could not change that and it is still that way today. However, you can only Brand those animals that you birth and raise on your own ranch now and not any that you buy from other ranchers, even if they did not Brand them before they sold them.

Q. Why do some animal colors seem to be reversed but when dna tested they do not show up as "reversed genes"?

A. This is not a bug. There are some colors that the game considers "equal" but it was not easy to detail that in the Help Section.

Q. How long is the ideal time for resting after a females has given birth before you breed again? And for males after you breed to breed again?

A. Females are not breedable for a certain amount of time after birth, 24 hours I believe, and Males 1 hour after a breeding they are able to breed again.
Other than that it makes no difference when you breed them as far as the game is concerned.
Do vet (Animal Hospital) the females after birth as giving birth lowers their condition slightly, which will affect the stats of their offspring as I assume the game looks at current stats for the offspring.
