Creating Pastures and Moving Animals
Creating Pastures
First you need to click the Manage Land button on your Ranch Page, then the "Create a New Pasture" link, this will (big surprise) create a new pasture. A "Name Pasture" screen will come up, choose a name for your new pasture. Once you have the new pasture there will be links to "Add an Acre", "Remove an Acre" and "Rename".
Each time you click Add an Acre it will take one acre from your Open Range Pasture and add it to the new pasture. Remove an Acre does the opposite, it takes one acre from the pasture and adds it to your Open Range. And BTW Open Range cannot be renamed or removed, and it always has to have at least 1 Acre in it.
Rename opens a "Change the name of your pasture" page, type the name you want into the box and hit save.
After you have made 2 or more pastures you can use the "Order" column to move pastures up or down the list that is displayed on your ranch page, just type a number in the boxes next to the pastures you want to move and click "Save Order" button. (1 will make it go to the top of the list under Open Range, 2 will be below 1, etc., and they don't have to be sequential either)
Moving Animals Around
Once you have made and added acres to a new pasture it will be available on the drop down list at the bottom of pasture pages.
You check the box to the left of the name of the animal (or animals) you want to move, then go down to the bottom of the pasture page to "Move Selected Animals to:" and click on the "v" next to the box that (by default) says "Open Range", a list will pop up of all available pastures. (If all you currently have is the Open Range pasture that's all that will be there)
Click on the pasture you want it (them) sent to, the list will collapse back down and the pasture you wanted should be displayed in the box, click the "Move" button to send them to the selected pasture, they will disappear out of that pasture and be waiting in the new one.
Also just under moving animals is "Give Selected Animals To:" section, you do pretty much the same as above to use this, click the box next to the name of the animal you want to send to another Rancher, but you have to type in the name of the recipient in the first box or use the drop down list if the person is on your Friends List. When you have selected the person to receive the animal click the "Give" button. The animal will go to their Open Range pasture and they will also get a "___ has sent you an animal Gift" notice under events on their main ranch page. Be careful as once sent you cannot get the animal back unless the person who received it sends it back. There is no undo!
Gifting is often used in conjunction with the Send Ranch Cash option in the Rmail (short for Ranch Mail) window for private sales between people who know and feel they can trust each other. Quicker and easier than the Trading Post but not as safe.
